DESCRIPTION

Empire Clock; France, circa 1810.
Mercury gilt bronze.
Measures: 46 x 33,5 x 12 cm.
French table clock of Empire style and period. It is made entirely of mercury-gilt bronze, with a sculptural concept typical of this period. It is a piece of classical aesthetics, with a base decorated with relief ornamentation that occupies the entire front of the base with figurative motifs arranged in the form of a frieze. The watch case with Roman numerals and Breguet-type hands stands on this base. The case has been designed in sculptural form and is flanked by a rounded figure of a young man raising a cup, which can be identified as Bacchus, and various other elements related to the same theme.
