"Frida Magdalene-Frida Muffin", is a work that belongs to the series Say, you can see. In this series the artist complements the playful sense of his poetics. He proposes a semiotic game both from the image and from the words of the Anglo-Saxon linguistic and cultural appropriations. The title of the series itself is an example of this and a sample of how appropriations can, from the "equivocal", create new meanings and concepts. Some artists, in order to try to understand the world around them, need to translate it into their own language. "Frida Magdalene-Frida Muffin", tells us about a personal and intimate connection, the model used, the artist's wife, transfigured and present in many of his works is a sign of it. "Frida Magdalene-Frida Muffin", is a love letter painted in bright colors, it is a letter of reunion and conciliation, of acceptance and affirmation of the contradictions of being.
Jan Valdés Téllez is an artist of Cuban origin who currently resides in Madrid. He began his academic training at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes de San Alejandro in Havana, where he graduated in 2004. His works have been exhibited internationally, notably at the Toronto Art Fair, Canada, the Ludwin Foundation and the Fivars Galleries, Spain, among others.
