Josep Maria Cabané holds exhibitions since 1986, and combines his artistic work with teaching, working as a professor of portraiture in various courses and seminars. He focuses his work on the representation of the human figure, using the aesthetics of portraiture but fleeing from photographic fidelity. His characters are the result of a reformulation of human features, imagination and the painter's own intimate universe. He is close to Magritte's surrealism, but he envelops his images with melancholy, in which the spatial emptiness gives prominence to the individual. He is currently represented at the Fundació Vila Casas.
