"El poema del aire" is an outstanding example of the exploration of abstract languages developed by José Manuel Ciria, and of his ability to integrate different influences and styles within a highly personal and constantly evolving work.
A self-taught painter, Ciria made his individual debut in Paris in 1984, at the Ferriére gallery. A few years later he organized solo exhibitions in Manchester, London and Brighton. In Spain, his first individual exhibition took place in 1987, at the Imagen-Doce gallery in Seville. Throughout his career, Ciria has won awards both in Spain and in foreign competitions, and in 1995 he was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Spanish Academy in Rome. He is represented at the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the IVAM in Valencia, the Albertina in Vienna, the Tretyakov in Moscow, the Givatayim Museum-Theater in Tel-Avi, the Chase Manhattan Bank collection and the Royal Palace in Madrid (Patrimonio Nacional), among other Spanish and foreign collections.
