This work reproduces a section of the painting painted by Carl Theodor Von Blass (Austria in 1886 -1960) in 1879. The original painting has two male figures on the right side of the composition. In this particular work the author simply focuses his interest on the group of women.
The aesthetics of the work indicates the historicist taste of the author. In fact, the work is set in a glorious and idealized past, a common resource in the painting of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The pictorial historicism of the 19th century, the main current at the time, was born linked to the Academies of Fine Arts. The term "historicism" (Historismus) was coined by the German philosopher Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel. Over time, what historicism is and how it is practiced has taken on different and divergent meanings. Elements of historicism appear in the writings of French essayist Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592) and Italian philosopher GB Vico (1668-1744), and were more fully developed with the dialectics of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831), influential in 19th-century Europe.
