Gabriel Deschamps became known as a painter of marine and genre scenes in the south of France. He studied at the École Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. From 1939 he was a professor of State Art and a member of the Salon d'Automne in Paris. His paintings perfectly capture the fresh, vibrant colors and intense quality of light of that region.
During his lifetime, Deschamps' paintings were sold to numerous collectors in the United Kingdom, and his works are represented in important private collections in Switzerland, Belgium, Brazil, the United States and Argentina.
