Landscape painter, Planas Doria was a disciple of Joan Vila. He studied in Madrid, Barcelona and Paris, and also lived for a long period in Brussels. In 1921 he made his first individual exhibition, at the Serra Salon in Barcelona, an exhibition that already brought him great recognition from the public. He was especially appreciated for his landscapes of the Vallés. He was president of the Círculo Artístico and vice-president of the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de Cataluña. He obtained the Prize of Honor in the Autumn Salon of Madrid in 1935, and the Extraordinary Prize in the competition "Barcelona seen by its artists" (1930). In 2005, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of his death, the Caixa Sabadell dedicated an extensive retrospective to him. Planas Doria is currently represented at the Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell and the Museum of Empordà.
