In this devotional scene the author presents the figure of Christ accompanied by a male character. The luminosity and expressiveness with which the body of Christ has been captured, dressed in resounding colours such as the red of his tunic or the blue of his cloak, as well as a break in the glory radiates its light directly on Jesus whose image contrasts with the ochre tones of the figure accompanying him, thus indicating through the tonalities that it is a character of a lower rank, specifically the devil. The scene takes up the theme of the temptation of Christ which is a biblical narrative detailed in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke: after being baptised by John the Baptist, Jesus was tempted by the devil after 40 days and nights of fasting in the Judean desert. At that time, Satan approached Jesus and tried to tempt Him. Jesus having rejected each temptation, Satan departed and Jesus returned to Galilee to begin His ministry. Matthew and Luke describe the temptations by recounting the details of the conversations between Jesus and Satan. Since the elements are found in Matthew and Luke, but not in Mark, they are mostly pairs of quotations rather than detailed narratives.
