DESCRIPTION

Large model of the ship HMS Victory, XIX century.
Measurements: 160 x 205 x 71 cm.
Large scale model of the warship HMS Victory, including her 104 guns, full sails, etc.
HMS Victory was Admiral Nelson's flagship. Especially known for her role in the Battle of Trafalgar, the Victory is still in use today, as the Georgian Navy Museum, located in the historic port of Portsmouth, England. She also remains in service today as the flagship of the Second Sea Lord.
The ship was chartered on 7 May 1765 at the Old Single Dock in the Royal Dockyard at Chatham. In the following years, over an unusually long service, the Victory gained renown leading fleets in the American Revolutionary War, the French Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars. In 1805 the ship became part of British cultural memory as the flagship of Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) in the greatest naval victory in British history, the defeat of the French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar. However, the Victory's service did not end with Nelson's death. In 1808 she was commissioned to command the fleet in the Baltic, although four years later she was relegated to port duties, serving as a residence and memorial. In 1922 she was moved to dry dock for preservation as a historical monument, where she remains today. Today HMS Victory is visited by thousands of tourists as a museum and as one of the oldest warships in the world. In fact, it is the only ship of the line that has survived to the present day in its original condition.
