Sculptural lamp of two lights in polychrome ceramic manufactured by Royal Dux. The foot takes the form of a sensual water carrier touched with a garland of leaves, resolved in Jugendstil or Secession style. She holds with her raised right arm a cup with Greek fretwork and with her left arm she surrounds a jar. Two naked lovebirds prowl between her bare feet.
Royal Dux was one of the most prominent porcelain manufactories of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods in Bohemia. Founded by E. Eichler in 1853 in Dux (now Duchov), near Prague, it has remained in business to this day. Around the turn of the century, the firm specialized in the production of Art Nouveau figures and busts. These were large pieces, mainly female-themed, as well as vases decorated with round figures.
