DESCRIPTION

Pair of candlesticks; France, Empire period, c. 1805.
Chiseled bronze, gilded with mercury and burnished.
Measurements: 64 x 38 cm (each).
Lot consists of two gilded bronze candlesticks that have the same design. Both are arranged on a triangular base, gives way to an interior with details of overlapping synthetic leaves that rise adopting a flared shape and topped with lion claws. The shaft separated from the foot by a circular structure has been designed as a classic column. This area is richly adorned with a stylized leaf base, fluted body and capital. Finally, the zone of the shaft takes the form of a fluted column with six arms, the central one being the highest. The ornamental motifs are reminiscent of examples of the decorative art of the period, but reinterpreted to suit the aesthetic taste of the nineteenth century.
