DESCRIPTION
Mazarin bureau; Northern Spain, c. 1700.
Partially ebonized pine, walnut veneer, purplewood and fruitwood inlay.
Missing locks on lower drawers.
It retains key.
Measurements: 88 x 128 x 82 cm.
Bureau-desk with pine structure. The piece, from the north of Spain, is supported by eight legs, four on each side. These have a simple design with a slightly wavy shaft. Above them, each of the sides has a front formed by two drawers that have the same format. The central zone is recessed towards the interior and the front is composed of two drawers of greater width than the lateral ones. The skirt has a design that follows the division of the aforementioned lanes, although it is not a drawer but a front cover that when opened gives way to the desk. The top or upper panel lifts up to reveal the desk, which is defined by two drawers on each side and another two on the front, and a top with an ornamentation of geometric motifs. The design of the piece reveals a clear influence of the typology of the Philippe V desks of the Italian offices of the Macerinos, demonstrating an exquisite fusion of styles and techniques from different cultures and historical periods.
