Two genuinely related traditions converge in this piece of exquisite tailoring and delicate design: Japanese craftsmanship and European modernism. Both are inspired by nature, but not in a naturalistic and objective way, but, on the contrary, extracting the magical and mysterious essence of the natural world. In this Japanese-designed (but French Art Nouveau) floor lamp, a floral bouquet grows out of a bed of lacustrine leaf litter on sinuous, playful stems, ending in teardrop-shaped lights. A long-necked bird pecks at a corolla. The bronze appears embossed and chiseled with care, extracting just the right organic qualities and veined textures. The flower that germinates at the end of the bouquet is made of pate de verre, with translucent polychrome and green polka dots.
