DESCRIPTION
Dutch cabinet of the 18th century.
Walnut wood with marquetry.
Measurements: 188 x 147 x 54 cm.
This cabinet rests on a base with legs and has a simple superstructure, in the form of a cupboard, adorned with large still lifes of flowers, fruits, horns of plenty and birds exquisitely worked in marquetry, covering the entire structure. Such marquetry follows in the footsteps of cabinetmaker Jan van Mekeren, who specialized in producing luxurious marquetry furniture for Amsterdam's elite. The doors open to a simple interior with two shelves, both with marquetry on their fronts. An oval embellishes the interior of the doors. Its waist accommodates a drawer also ornamented with floral bouquets. The legs are joined together by undulating Y-shaped stretchers, each with conical stipes resting on flattened spheres.
