DESCRIPTION
16th century Renaissance bargueño.
Walnut wood.
Measurements: 62 x 115 x 41 cm (bargueño); 83 x 120 x 48 cm (locker).
Renaissance 16th-century bargueño raised on a closed locker with two front doors, with independent locks and two drawers in the upper part. This low body is supported by two legs that are placed in front of the taquillón, a form that would continue to be used in the Mannerist period and would also be developed during the Baroque period. The taquillón has an architecturally inspired structure. The façade houses the two doors, which are separated by a panel decorated with rectangular recesses containing geometric vegetal decorations. The doors also have long interior hinges and handles in the drawer area.
The upper body of the chest has a hinged lid, the decoration of which is completely smooth, with apparent metal hinges in the shape of a fleur-de-lis and elaborate metal handles with stylised vegetal designs. Inside, it conceals a desk sample in keeping with the rest of the piece of furniture, with decorated drawers in the shape of a scroll and handles. The sample is arranged in three registers, the central one recessed and with a chapel in the form of a façade with a semicircular arch raised on columns, and on both sides other narrow drawers. The side registers, which are striking in relation to the centre, have the tower's lineage shield, where the two castles are represented.
