The sculpture "Casto", part of the TAVRVS series, created by the Malaga artists Francisco Casado, Miguel Moreno and Julio Perez, is a work of great symbolism that combines tradition and modernity. This stylized bull is presented as a compact block with a body decorated with an intricate ornamental pattern that evokes arabesque motifs or stylized vegetation, in grayish and black tones. Although part of a series, each sculpture is unique due to the material used by the artists. The design reinforces a balance between strength and sophistication, highlighting the duality of the bull as a symbol of raw power and cultural heritage.
The horns of the figure emerge in an imposing manner, curved with aggressiveness and drama, building a contrast with the rest of the body that appears static and structured. These elements bring the bull to life, evoking the energy and tradition it represents in Spanish culture.
The piece has been exhibited in prestigious venues, such as the 2015 Reina Sofía Prize and different museums and galleries in Andalusia, including the Zabaleta Miguel Hernández Museum in Jaén, the Municipal Archive of the Community of Madrid, and the CajaSol Hall in Seville. It has also been awarded the Carousel Prize, which underscores its relevance and recognition within the contemporary art scene.
This work, which is part of the TAVRVS series, reflects on the symbolism of the bull as an identity icon, stripping it of its literal context to transform it into an art object loaded with abstraction, history and cultural dialogue. In the words of the artists "Chaste work that reflects purity and honesty. For us our TAVRVS series is to honor this majestic creature that is deeply rooted in our spiritual and cultural concecincia".
