DESCRIPTION
GIUSEPPE VASARI ( Italy, 1934-2005).
"Cellini creating the saleo of Francis I".
Silver plated bronze, gilt and onyx pedestal. Exemplary 30/100.
Measurements. 22 x 14,5 cm.
Sculpture in gilt and silvered bronze depicting Cellini with the saltcellar of Francis I of France. A partially enameled gold table sculpture by Benvenuto Cellini that was completed in 1543, based on silver plated models that had been prepared many years earlier for Cardinal Ippolito d'Este. The work is the only surviving gold sculpture by Benvenuto Cellini and is the most famous of the surviving gold sculptures of the Renaissance. As a paradigm of "Renaissance goldsmithing", the sculptor showed the multiple meanings of the small objects of the time.
