DESCRIPTION

French school; late nineteenth century.
"Religious scenes".
Sea foam.
One of the pieces does not preserve glass.
Measurements: 26 cm (diameter) x 5 cm; 27 x 10 cm.
Set of four framed works. Three of them present different scenes of religious character. One shows the Virgin with the Child, wrapped in a break of glory and accompanied by two cherubs. In another of the works, we see the representation of the Ecce Homo, and finally, the theme of the Annunciation. Both the technique, the dimensions and the material used in these works are features that indicate that they were probably conceived in a private and particular way.
It is necessary to emphasize in all of them (with the exception of one) the quality of the relief, which goes from barely engraved to a high relief in the frontal figures. Sepiolite, a mineral also known as "sea foam", stands out for being very suitable for carving figures, a characteristic that has led to its frequent use in art in countries with deposits of this mineral (Turkey, Greece, Spain, etc.).
