FIDEL AGUILAR MARCÓ (Girona, 1894 - 1917).

Fidel Aguilar was a precocious sculptor who, in spite of dying when he was only twenty-two years old, achieved that his works were recognized within the Catalan environment of the moment. He studied for a time at the School of Fine Arts in Girona, although he was mainly characterized by being a self-taught sculptor. In 1909 he opened his own workshop for commissioned furniture and restoration, and during these years he devoted his free time to drawings, sketches in clay and small wood carvings. Later he would also take up stone carving. From 1915 he carried out several projects in collaboration with the architect Rafael Masó, and in 1916 he settled in Barcelona with the aim of devoting himself more deeply to stone sculpture. However, a few days later he had to return to Girona when he fell ill, dying suddenly at the beginning of the following year due to a stomach Puncture. Since 1976, one of the Municipal Halls of Girona bears his name, as a result of the vindication of his figure carried out from the seventies onwards.
