DESCRIPTION
Hispanomuslim beam from the Almohad period, 12th century.
Carved wood.
Measurements: 21 x 79 x 16 cm.
Carved wooden beam with vegetal incisions forming a frieze of rhythmic motifs on each side, without repeating its decoration. Typical decoration of Almohad art in 12th century Muslim Spain. The Almoravids endowed architecture and decorative art with great splendor. Almohad art continued the Almoravid trail, consolidating and deepening its typologies and ornamental motifs. They built with the same materials: tiles, plaster, mortar and wood. The decoration in architecture, fabrics and objects showed a practical absence of figurative motifs while geometric and epigraphic decoration increased.
