DESCRIPTION

ÓSCAR TUSQUETS I BLANCA (Barcelona, 1941) and LLUÍS CLOTET (Barcelona, 1941) for BD.
Set of four "Catalano" armchairs. Barcelona, 1979.
In perforated and unfolded metal sheet (deployé).

Measurements: 76 x 61 x 76 cm.

Set of four garden armchairs, a model designed in collaboration by Oscar Tusquets and Lluis Clotet, and published by Bd in 1979. Its design derives from the iconic "Catalano" bench, produced five years earlier, which in turn adapts the profile of Antoni Gaudí's continuous bench for Park Güell. The seat and back are joined in an ergonomic, openwork curve with rhomboidal grille. The structure is light and versatile, and can be used both indoors and outdoors. They were innovators in the technique, the deployé, which gives consistency and at the same time lightness to the seat, making it easy to transport.

Óscar Tusquets is an architect, painter and designer, trained at the Escuela de La Lonja in Barcelona and the ETSAB. In 1964 he founded Studio PER with Lluís Clotet, with whom he collaborated regularly until 1984. In 1987 he teamed up with the architect Carlos Díaz, with whom he carried out projects in various countries, including Japan and Germany. He has been awarded the Delta de Oro del FAD prize on several occasions, and in 1987 he received the Sant Jordi Cross.

Lluís Clotet studied at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona, and in 1964 he founded Studio PER together with architects Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici and Óscar Tusquets. He is also a founding partner of the firm Bd Barcelona Design, for which he regularly creates furniture and objects. He has received important awards such as the FAD, which he has won on several occasions, the Delta de Oro and the National Cultural Heritage Award, among others.
