DESCRIPTION

MAX INGRAND (Bressuire, France, 1908-Paris, 1969) for FONTANA ARTE.
Pair of ceiling lamps model 2220, Italy, circa 1959 - 1960.

Light rust marks that give them a beautiful patina due to their age.
Measurements: 47 x 30 x 30 cm.

Ceiling lamp designed by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte. It consists of a stylized and flared lampshade with great elegance due to the subtle curved play and thanks to the attractive blown glass diffuser with facets. These form a beautiful organic pattern similar to a rosette, which gives a very warm lighting.

Famous French master glassmaker and decorator, Max Ingrand was artistic director of FontanaArte from 1954 to 1964. During that time he devised true design classics, such as the Fontana table lamp. He was educated at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, studying with Jacques Grüber and Charles Lemaresquier. He was elected president of the French Lighting Association in 1968. That same year he founded the company Verre Lumière, one of the first producers of halogen lamps. Between the 1940s and 1960s he created numerous stained glass windows for churches (in some cases replacing those destroyed in World War II), including those of the cathedral of Pontoise (1955), the cathedral of Strasbourg (1956), or the chapels of the castle of Blois (1957). He has also worked for important civil buildings.
