DESCRIPTION

ALAN FLETCHER (Nairobi, Kenya, 1931 - London, 2006) for MEBEL.
Clam ashtrays, 1965.
Polymer.
Measurements: 7 x 15,5 cm (x3).
Set of three "clam" ashtrays, made in different colors. Born in Nairobi (Kenya), Fletcher moved to England at the age of five and studied at four art schools: Hammersmith School of Art, Central School of Art, Royal College of Art (1953-1956) and, finally, Yale School of Art and Architecture at Yale University in 1956. Fletcher was noted for his use of bold colors and a humorous approach to graphic design for advertising and branding. In 1962 he founded the design firm Fletcher/Forbes/Gill with Colin Forbes and Bob Gill. In 1993 he won the Prince Philip Designers Award from the Design Council and was President of the D&AD (Designers and Art Directors Association).
Alan Fletcher was described by The Daily Telegraph as "the most reputable graphic designer of his generation, and probably one of the most prolific".
