DESCRIPTION

GIANDOMENICO BELOTTI (Italy, 1922-2004)
Set of four Spaghetti 101 children's chairs.
Alias edition 1970.
In enameled metal and plastic threads.
Measurements: 65 x 37 x 32 cm.
Belotti made several series called Spaghetti, in versions of stools, chairs without armrests, armchairs and children's chairs like the ones shown here. The first versions, from 1979, the Spaghetti Chair and the Spaghetti Stool, became part of the permanent collection of the MOMA in New York in 1984, and of the Vitra Design Museum in 1994. The tubular structure (slightly cambered at the seat crossbar), the ribbed texture, the enamel finish in different colors and the lightweight steel frame characterize the entire series. A symbol of design history.

Born in Bergamo, Belotti began working with the sculptor Marino Marini in Monza, then studied at IUAV in Venice. He started as an architect in the studios of Giulio Minoletti, Guglielmo Ulrich and Gaetano Scolari in Milan in 1950. Until 1979 he carried out works in Milan, in Via Varese and Via Volta. In 1979 he started working with Alias. Apart from the Spaghetti chair, he also designed the Out Door chairs for Alias in 1983. From 1984 he directed the urban planning and design workshop len SCP (Società Cooperativa di Progettazione) in Genoa. In 1997 he received the IN/ARCH award.
