This work belongs to a time when the artist was experimenting with the idea of "self-design" in fact in his own words "In 1974, I thought that if people were encouraged to build a table, for example, with their own hands, they might better understand the underlying thought that has gone into it".
Enzo Mari's work, internationally recognized as some of the best Italian design, is characterized by the incessant search for and experimentation with new forms and meanings. Enzo Mari studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. After completing his studies, he immediately dedicated himself to the nascent world of industrial design and to intense artistic activity. In 1971 he participated in the exhibition M.o.M.A: "Italy: The New Domestic Landscape". Considered one of the great exponents of Italian and world design, he was involved with important institutions, such as the Industrial Design Association (he was its president from 1976 to 1979). Among the most important awards: two Compasso d'Oro awards and the acquisition of his works by several museums of modern art. Mari's activity has extended to collaboration with public bodies, research and urban design and teaching, through conferences and courses in Italy and abroad. He began working for Zanotta in 1981.
