CRISTOPHER DUFFY for DUFFY LONDON
Up! Balloon Coffee Table, 2012.
Steel, tempered glass, metallic resin.

Measurements: 47 x 90 x 90 cm.

This is a sophisticated and festive coffee table in equal parts. A group of resin balloons finished in black that emulate water balloons seem to be kept in balance by the effect of gravity, tied to steel strands that trace an attractive game of meanders on the floor. These create the illusion of a playful tangle of ribbons. The transparent glass envelope reveals the captivating sculpture, reminiscent of a piece of contemporary art. It combines art, design and functionality. The "Up! Balloon Coffee Table" was designed by Christopher Duffy and his team at Duffy London in 2012.

Christopher Duffy founded Duffy London in 2002 after graduating from the University of Brighton with a degree in Product Design. His furniture designs are idea-driven, combining art and functionality, and playing with the concepts of gravity, geography and optical illusion. Chris surrounds himself with a unique team of designers, craftsmen and fabricators to turn these concepts into high quality luxury pieces, bespoke furniture and artistic sculptures. All pieces are handmade to order in the London studio by an expert team of craftsmen using sustainable woods. Works have been featured at Art Basel, Art Miami and 100% Design London. In 2016 Duffy London was a partner of the PAD London 20th Century Design & Decorative Arts Fair. In 2019, a limited edition of the Abyss coffee table was acquired by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Le Louvre in Paris to become part of the permanent national collection.
