Giampaolo Seguso is the son of Archimede, one of the most important glassmakers of the 20th century, who founded the extraordinary Italian glass factory Vetreria Archimede Seguso in 1948, where father and son worked side by side until Giampaolo was almost 50 years old. After his father's death, Giampaolo was eager to strike out on his own artistic path, so he opened a branch of his company, Seguso Viro, in New York in 1993. The trick, Seguso explains, is to “achieve a contemporary look using the ancient Renaissance. With the help of his son Pierpaolo and his team, Seguso manages to understand American tastes and trends. In New York, where they have found a strong sense of youth culture, they want to communicate the authentic essence of Murano. “For me, glass is the only material that can reproduce the colors of the Venetian lagoon,” says Seguso. He gave lectures in Europe and the United States, has won numerous awards and an honorary degree in Communication Sciences at the “John Paul I” University. His works are found in the world's main museums: from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art and the Corning Museum in New York, among hundreds of other museums around the world. He works in his Murano studio, where he welcomed glass collectors and experts from all over the world.
