The painter Modest Teixidor was dedicated to the portrait, the landscape and the subjects of customs, winning several medals as the third of the National Exhibition of Madrid of 1887, for his canvas "The square of the Palace, in Barcelona". He began his training at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi in Barcelona, later extending it in Paris, where he was a disciple of Carolus-Duran and Jules Bastien-Lepage. Throughout his career he exhibited individually and collectively, taking part in exhibitions such as those held at the Sala Parés, at least between 1917 and 1926. He also participated in official exhibitions, such as the Sitges Fine Arts Exhibition of 1892, in which Meifrèn, Urgell, Mas i Fondevila and others also took part. He was also awarded the highest prize at the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1900, and the gold medal of the José Masriera Award by the Academy of Fine Arts of Barcelona in 1921. Teixidor was a member of the Centro de Excursionistas de Cataluña, whose art gallery currently holds one of his portraits, by fellow member Domènec Badia i Leblich. Teixidor is currently represented in the Prado Museum (work on deposit at the Municipal de San Telmo in San Sebastian), and in the Abbey of Montserrat, as well as in various private collections.
