DESCRIPTION
VOLKSTEDT RUDOLSTADT tabletop fountain; Germany, 19th century.
Hand glazed and glazed porcelain.
With signature.
Presents an old restoration on the base.
Measurements: 42 x 40 x 40 cm.
Centerpiece with the sculptural representation of four children playing chase each other around a tulip-shaped fountain. It belongs to the manufacture of Volkstedt Rudolstadt, established in Thuringia in 1762 by G. H. Micheleid (1723-1801), under the patronage of Prince Johann F. Schwarzburg of Rudolstadt, adopting as first trade mark the trident of the princely coat of arms. Micheleid had previously worked in the Glücksthal art glass factory, and had begun his own research in the field of porcelain, surpassing his masters. He then decided to open his own factory, which soon acquired a great reputation thanks to its highly decorative sculptures, finally enameled and carefully modeled, intended for a wealthy public and highly sought after by collectors today.
