DESCRIPTION
Vase; Murano, c.1930.
Millefiori bent glass.
Measurements: 42 x 25 cm.
Vase made of Murano glass, whose decoration presents a design of dynamic and expressive character. Called Millefiori is a glass technique that produces distinctive decorative patterns in glassware. The term millefiori is a combination of the Italian words "mille" (thousand) and "fiori" (flowers). Murano's reputation as a glassmaking center was born when the Republic of Venice, fearing fires and the destruction of the city's wooden buildings, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291. Murano glass is still associated with Venetian glass.
