DESCRIPTION
Meiji period vase, 19th century, transformed into a floor lamp.
Patinated bronze, fine gold details.
No lampshade.
Measurements: 65 x 20 x 16 cm.
Meiji period bronze vase, later transformed into a floor lamp. The vase rises on three feet that start from the open jaws of zoomorphic heads. The tripod stand rests on a pierced disk-shaped base. The stylized belly of the vase has been delicately chiseled and hand-painted with inlaid metals in different tones (with gilded elements to fine gold), representing birds, chrysanthemums and plant branches. The handles take the form of scaled dragons with serpentine bodies and expressive jaws. It belongs to the last period of the Meiji dynasty. The fusion between refined Japanese craftsmanship and its later adaptation gives it a unique character, evoking the splendor of Meiji art.
