Set of eight Taoist ceremonial paintings, belonging to the Yao-Mien culture of the Qing dynasty. They are represented, among mythological scenes: the Pantheon of the Gods (Heng Fei/Hang Si), Ton Hoi Fan (Xiao Tang Hai Fan, standard of the sea on a small altar) and Tang Yun-sueui (Deng Yuanshuai, Marshal Teng). These ceremonial paintings are attributed to the Yao or Mien minority culture resident in southern and southwestern China, northern Vietnam and other neighboring regions such as Laos, Maynmar, Thailand. These eight paintings possibly belong to a complete series of eighteen paintings. They were commissioned by Taoist priests and served as a means of communication with the gods during ritual ceremonies.
