DESCRIPTION

Katar with dragons. India, probably Bikaner region, 18th century.
Steel partially damascened in gold.
It comes with a case embellished with floral motifs, with stitching.
Measurements: 45,7 cm.

The dagger of this beautiful katar (white weapon used in Persia and northern India) consists of two blades embellished with deep grooves. The gold damascened handle has two baluster-shaped crosspieces framing two stylized dragons. The vertical uprights are decorated with damascened floral and vegetal motifs on each side, and chevrons on the edges. The similarly shaped katars bear the Bikaner markings.
