BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Screen; China, 20th century.
Silk and polychrome paper.
Measurements: 91 x 43 x 3 cm; 172 cm (open).
Four-panel screen with wooden structure, silk and painted paper with a landscape starring peonies. The screen with its floral motifs, reflects the taste for nature and the meticulous detail characteristic of oriental art of that time, which was also appreciated in the painters and craftsmen of the time. The colors and shapes in these screens were intended to materialize the harmony between man and nature. Through their aesthetic influence, these paravents not only served to divide spaces in homes, but also to expose the high status of the owners, as they were luxury items.
