BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Source; China, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, third quarter of the 18th century.
Porcelain enameled on glass and partially gilded. Pink family.
Presents pitting on the edge and enamel losses.
Measurements: 5 x 37 x 37 cm.
Porcelain fountain for export Copagnie des Indes. Decorated in the eaves with motifs that form a chain and fleurs-de-lis, thus aesthetically defining this area. The center has a border running around the outer perimeter in gilt and finally at the base a large heraldic shield.
The East India Company was a generic term for those companies that managed trade between a European metropolis and its colonies. The Chinese manufacturers soon realized that Europeans were not experts in porcelain and produced export porcelain, vulgar, even with flaws, but which in the eyes of Westerners turned out to be authentic works of art. Once the trade was regularly organized, the India Companies supplied Chinese artists with European models, both for forms and decoration. Throughout the 18th century the blue and white series persisted, but of inferior quality, which was then called Nanjing porcelain.
