DESCRIPTION

Two processional banners "alams" India, Deccan, XIX - XX centuries.
Cast brass.
Measurements: 50 x 21 cm (x2).
These two banners known as "alams", used in Shiite processions are decorated with a central medallion composed of a floral frieze engraving, centered on an inscription. The sinuous sides are engraved with ornaments ending in dragon heads. They are topped with openwork decoration.
These objects are linked to the ritual of Ashura which is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Muharram of the Islamic calendar.
