BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Lower part of a fine sculpture. Gupta Empire, North India, 4th-6th century AD.
Terracotta.
The lot is accompanied by a second fragment of sculpture.
Measurements: 30 cm and 16 cm (height).

This fine fragment of terracotta sculpture shows legs in tribhanga posture, the Indian version of the contrapostto. The body is sensually draped in a cloth dress. The lot is accompanied by a second sculpture fragment depicting the thighs of a human figure. These two pieces have the characteristics of the aesthetic established in the Gupta period, based on the explicit understanding of the human body in all its delicacy.
