DESCRIPTION

Set of three lime vessels used in betel chewing ritual. Cambodia, 12th-13th century.
Patinated bronze.
They show marks of use and restorations.
Measurements: 11.5 cm to 13.8 cm.

These three vessels were used in Cambodia to store the lime added by chewing betel nuts. The betel and spices were added together with lime to produce a slightly intoxicating combination chewed by the locals. This particular shape and design is unique to Cambodia.
