BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Set of 10 engravings from the 18th century corresponding to book VI of Virgil's Aeneid.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use, faults and dirt. One of the crystals is broken.
Measurements: 22,5 x 16,5 cm; 31 x 25 cm (frame).
The Aeneid is a Latin epic written by the Roman poet Virgil in the first century B.C. Virgil elaborated a rewriting, rather than a continuation, of the Homeric poems, taking as a starting point the Trojan War and the destruction of that city, and presenting the foundation of Rome in the manner of Greek myths. The work tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who escaped the fall of Troy and traveled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans.
