The megalodon (Otodus megalodon) was the largest shark that ever existed, dominating the oceans during the Cenozoic. Some megalodon teeth exceed 18 cm in length, indicating that the megalodon could have been up to 20 meters long. Triangular and serrated in shape, they were perfect for cutting and tearing large prey such as whales and other sharks. Their teeth have been found all over the world, from the Americas to Europe and Asia, usually in ancient marine deposits.
