The one we are now bidding for is a loutrophoros or lutrophore, a vessel originating from Greek ceramics, initially used to contain bath water. The Baltimore Painter, active in the last quarter of the fourth century BC, was one of the protagonists of the phase called late Apulian, and considered the last great painter of Apulian ceramics. His conventional name derives from a scroll krater preserved in the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.
