Floral surface ornamentation in the form of lace became one of the hallmarks of the Spanish Umayyad style (examples can also be seen on textiles and ivory carvings of the period). This capital, which once topped a column, has four identical sides. The decorative vegetal stems climb, intertwine and extend out to the sides, giving the stone a sense of lightness.
