BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Carpet "Kashan"; Persia, 20th century.
Wool.
Measurements: 200 x 295 cm.
The Kashan carpet is a type of highly prized Iranian carpet. Production was interrupted in Kashan between the Afghan invasion (1722) and the end of the 19th century. The revival of production was made with carpets of a superior quality wool. The earliest examples of this revival are called Kashan Motashemi, probably the name of a craftsman. The traditional techniques of carpet weaving in Kashan were chosen as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010, by Unesco. Kashan carpets are among the best in Iran thanks to the quality of their wool, their extraordinarily dense knotting and the beauty of their colors and patterns.
