DESCRIPTION

Moud carpet. Iran, 20th century.
Hand knotted wool.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: 148 x 103 cm.

The city of Moud is located south of Mashad and south of Birdjan in northeastern Iran. Moud carpets have or do not have a medallion placed in a central position. They are sometimes divided into Moud Mahi and Moud garden. The first mentioned, Mahi, often has a beige color with a red or light blue tinge and a star-shaped medallion. The other, Garden, is reminiscent of Bakhtiar carpets, illustrated with a curvilinear garden ornament.
