DESCRIPTION
Farahan carpet. Pakistan, ca. 1930.
Wool and knotted silk.
Wear and tear.
Measurements: 98 x 105 cm.
Farahan carpet from Pakistan, from the 1930s, in knotted wool with a warm beige background with a beautiful design of floral shapes and lateral borders throughout its composition.
Farahan rugs are made in Pakistan and are very popular as they are inspired and influenced by ancient Persian rugs. Specifically, they are patterned after the oldest traditions of the city of Arak, Persia. They are short pile carpets made of high quality wool, which makes them very hard-wearing, especially suitable for high traffic areas. The most predominant colours are red and cream. The two are often combined to make rugs with the centre of one colour and the border of the other and vice versa.
