Neoclassical Louis XVI style French table clock, with a stepped plinth in white marble richly ornamented with gilt bronze applications. Above it, a delicate sculpture of classical inspiration, cast in gilded bronze, depicts a young woman with a melancholic expression, wrapped in a tunic that exposes a breast. In one hand she holds a glass of wine, while the other, resting on her head, suggests a state of serene inebriation. The clock case, also in white marble, houses a porcelain dial adorned with a border of bronze ovals. At the top, a marble and bronze urn crowns the composition, and behind it a blue triangle studded with stars evoking astronomical motifs. To one side of the box, a lighted brazier. The classic motif of the putti is repeated in the gilded frieze and in the paintings on porcelain that decorate the plinth.
