BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION

"Hunting scene".
Oil on canvas.
Relined.

Measurements: 147 x 200 cm; 153 x 207 cm (frame).
Nineteenth-century painting inspired by Flemish and Dutch paintings of hunting genre of the seventeenth century. However, this is a hunting still life devoid of violence, presenting a dubious or potential hunt, as the birds escape the eager jaws of the dogs, which howl towards a cerulean sky, veiled in gray clouds and furrowed with birds. The author has paid special attention to describing the dogs' woolly and mottled fur, their powerful anatomy and muscles under tension. Likewise, the plumage of the birds is described with a meticulous and bold stroke in capturing the silvery reflections of their bellies and wings. The scene is set in a wild landscape bordered by foliage that is darkened by the lights of dusk.
