This 16th century Tuscan frame is an exquisite work of carved and gilded wood, characteristic of the high level of Italian Renaissance craftsmanship. Its design is deeply ornamental, with a symmetrical structure and a decoration rich in sculptural reliefs that reflect the influence of Mannerism and early Baroque.
At the top, two cherubs support a central medallion depicting a religious scene, probably the Virgin and Child, indicating its possible use in a sacred context. On the sides of the mirror, there are figures in high relief, probably representing virtues or biblical figures, accompanied by decorative elements such as scrolls, volutes and garlands. At the bottom, another central medallion with a sculpted figure reinforces the symmetry and visual balance of the piece.
The quality of the work is exceptional, with meticulous carving that highlights the folds of the garments and the expressiveness of the faces. The gilding, applied using the gold leaf technique, highlights the volumes and provides a luxurious and luminous effect. This frame served not only as a functional object but also as a manifestation of status and artistic refinement, probably being a commissioned piece for the nobility or clergy.
