The fineness of the finishes and the acute sense of detail of Emilio Fiaschi's sculptures can be clearly appreciated in the sculpture we present. A woman of elegant bearing and harmonious features supports, turns her face slightly tilting it downward, thus adopting a gesture of great sophistication. She covers her smooth skin with vaporous fabrics that flutter on her bust in an exceptional way. A large headdress adds monumentality to the work without losing the subtlety and lightness of the carving, as the folds of the hat itself show the great technical mastery of the sculptor.
Sculptor active in Florence between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Emilio Fiaschi was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, in the tradition of Florentine sculpture. He worked mainly in Carrara marble and alabaster, and created busts and complete figures of various themes, ranging from classical mythology to literary themes, including costumbrismo. His language was characterized by an acute sense of detail, and his works are distinguished by the fineness of their finishes. He is currently represented in private collections in Europe and America.
