Trained at the La Lonja School, Ortuño made his individual debut in 1971, and the following year he won the Sala Parés Young Painting Prize. Since then, he has shown his work individually in Spain, Italy, Russia, Japan and the United States, in prominent venues such as the Pushkin Museum in Saint Petersburg (2003), the Toho Art Corporation in Tokyo (1991), the Biosca Gallery in Madrid (1988) and the Spanish Cultural Institute of Santiago in Naples (1978), among many others. He has also participated in group exhibitions and fairs in Spain, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Argentina, Brazil, Santo Domingo, Belgium, Monaco and Switzerland. Ortuño's work is characterised by its intense colour, which is in keeping with the Fauvist concept.
